Common Sence Organic Gardening

Picture
There has been resurgence in growing your own fruits and vegetables and the large horticultural companies say the demand for  vegetable seedlings has outstripped the demand for ornamental s at the nurseries. It seems people want to do this organically and who wouldn’t what with the reports of side effects of chemicals, pesticides and GM crops.  But where to get started? This course is for the beginner gardener who wants to get a good grasp of the know how. We will talk where, when, how of gardening so you can be ready to plant for the next planting season. The best time to do this  course is late winter so you can be ready to plant out those delicious summer vegetables and know your going to be successful. When you see success you will be ready to tackle more perhaps. It will include all the basics of gardening:-
soil, no- dig, companion planting and natural pest control, compost and worms, seed varieties,  how to plant and propagate from seed,  and how take those very first steps with confidence .

    Duration: 4 hours
Price: $60 includes handout and bring a plate to share, in true Permie style.

Beyond Organic Gardening

Your physical health and the food you eat are intertwined. However, the food that’s coming out of conventional agriculture is of a very poor quality and recognised to be much lower in nutrients, than it used to be. Is it a coincident that at the same time our health status is decaying. Sure, we are living longer but we are not living better and our quality of life has fallen markedly. For the home gardener this is reversible. Discover how your garden can be your number 1 wellness tool. This course will give you the ability to build the biology in your soils and create and eat more nutrient dense food whilst at the same time will save you money and effort.

Duration: 2 hours.
Price: $25 including notes & fun. In true Permie style - bring a plate to share over a cuppa.

On this course we will look at designing your yard, so a mud map of your block will be needed. The design process will deepen your understanding of Permaculture, use Permaculture techniques and you will end up with not only your productive yard but also a chemically free one.

Garden Life (and Organic Pest Control)

Picture
The hidden world of garden creatures is fascinating and complex, even alien. While it is easy to appreciate the beauty of gloriously coloured butterflies and the fluffy, native Teddy Bear Bee, it is often the less salubrious creatures like the magnificent giant, burrowing, native cockroach that play a vital part in our garden ecosystems.
Learn about the life of your soil and how to care for it. How we invite in the beneficial insects and the natural predators so we can garden without sprays. We'll help you turn your backyard into a balanced ecosystem.

Duration: 2 hours
Price: $20 includes recipe handout and tea and coffee
